Questions
& Answers
Q. I am just beginning the wedding planning.
I am feeling very overwelmed.
How proper is a cash bar?
Marie
A. In answer to your question regarding a "cash bar" I
have a few suggestions for you.
I would not recommend opting for a "cash bar",
and here's why. A Host Bar or open bar is the only type of bar which is
considered acceptable in accordance to proper social etiquette. The reason
being, when you invite a guest to attend a wedding, that guest should
be treaded much in the same way as one would treat a guest in their home.
You would never consider asking a guest to pay for cocktails you serve
them in you home.
If you are trying to stay within your budget and would like
to have a Host Bar here are some suggestions that may assist you:
1. Let your caterer know your budget for beverage
service and let them make some recommendations.
2. Ask your caterer if you can bring your own alcohol and only be charged
a "corking fee".
3. Stop serving alcohol at a specific hour, and provide a coffee bar.
4. People tend to think a wine, beer and champagne bar is much cheaper,
perhaps because it's the most popular, but that is not true. It's only
about a $1.00 difference per person on average.
Q. How long do I have to write wedding
thank-you notes?
Kathleen
A. A good rule of thumb is to send thank-you notes within 3 months
of receiving your gift. If you receive wedding gifts before the wedding,
send a thank-you note as soon as possible.
Q. I've heard you can send your invitation to the President, and receive
something back from him. Do you know how to do this?
Susan
A. Yes, you can send the President a wedding invitation and you
will receive a pre-printed card with the signatures of the President and
First Lady -- which makes a wonderful keepsake. Here's where to send your
invitation:
The President & Mrs. Bush
The White House
Greetings Office, Room 39
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20502
Q. How can I donate my wedding dress?
Rita
A. You may mail your dress, along with three dollars to help defray
the cost of cleaning, to:
Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation
12708 SE Stephens Street
Portland, OR 97233
www.makingmemories.org
Q. My fiance and I want to have mints as our wedding
favors but don't know what kind to have. Any ideas?
Rebecca
A. If you go to www.altoids.com, you can order the cute heart tins
that are usually out at Valentines Day called "The Love Tin"
that would be a perfect favor and it's shapped as a heart.
